Why Character?

Why Develop Our
Character?
Practicing good character daily in our lives "grows" our ability to make good choices in our relationships and how we respond to daily situations in our environment.
  • Good character helps us recognize the "right" reasons for our actions and creates a safe and productive environment.

  • Good character gives purpose-based recognition, rather than performance-based recognition, and brings a higher level of personal satisfaction.

  • Good character does not focus on achieving perfection. Rather, it is an attitude of excellence.

  • Good character is not a program; rather, it is a mindset and an initiative.

  • Good character places focus on the individual, not their achievements.
Developing good character is an investment in the lives of our citizens, regardless of economic or social standing, level of education, age, gender or ethnic background.

Character Is...
...the sum of who we are, those distinctive qualities that determine our responses to situations.

...the expression of our decisions that we make on a daily basis, especially when we think no one else is looking.
Good Character Is...
...knowing the difference between right and wrong, and doing the right thing, even when wrong is easier.

...valuing the traits of good character and recognizing these traits in others.

...understanding that character starts with the individual and making the decision to be an individual of good character.
