Our History
In October 2006, the City of Prattville passed a Resolution establishing Prattville as a “City of Character”—the second of only three cities in Alabama to ever receive this prestigious distinction. This resolution committed the city to promote character education and development. Realizing the importance of fostering character development not only in the City of Prattville, but in Autauga County as well, the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition, Inc. was incorporated in 2007 and received its non-profit status 501(c)(3) in 2008.
The Coalition is NOT a part of city, county or state government; a political party; or a civic or social club. The Character Coalitions efforts are steered by the executive committee, a part-time executive director and board of directors from business, educational, family, government, churches and other places of faith in our local communities. An active network of business and community volunteers works diligently to introduce the idea of character development and ways to implement it to others throughout the Prattville-Autauga area

What We Do
The Character Coalition promotes and encourages character through:
  • Engaging businesses, schools, faith organizations in processes to enhance climate and culture
  • Highlight, honor and present community character awards, yearly
  • Highlight and honor one outstanding Champion of Character a year
  • Newsletter published monthly , Visions of Character
  • Email and social media reminders
  • Website resources
The Character Coalitions efforts are being embraced by business, education, families, individuals, organizations, government and faith segments of our community. The result is a community wide effort to strengthen our own character and that of our families, neighbors and community.
The Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition is committed to the idea that through increasing awareness and promoting good character qualities we can create a stronger, safer and more unified community.
The Character Coalition is composed of officers and a 21-member board of directors who serve rotating terms of three years. There is one paid part-time employee, the Executive Director, who serves at the pleasure of the board.
Currently, there are five special focus committees--Business, Professional, Education-Enrichment-Workforce Development; Faith-Ethics, Family, and Government-Social Services. These committees meet bi-monthly and are committed to implementing not only the goals of the Character Coalition, but their focus goals as well.
