Coach Myers’ commitment to his family, his determination to build a successful program against tough competition, and his ability to have his team excel both on the field and off are just a few of the many reasons that he was selected to receive the 2015 Champion of Character Award.
“Character is important in all walks of life," Coach Myers shared with almost 200 attendees, “ That perception we have as individuals; being honest, being committed, having integrity. That’s important. Because at the end of the day, all you have is your name and who you are.”
Mascots from Alabama colleges attended the event and attendees were encouraged to wear their team colors, so there was a good mix of orange and blue, and crimson and white. The evening festivities included a silent auction, games for the children and dinner. Dr. Ed Mullins, president of the Coalition, presented Coach Myers with the 2015 Champion of Character Award and the highlight of the evening was hearing Coach talk about the importance of good character and the role it has played in his life and the success of his team.
“Whether we send our kids to Auburn or Alabama, we still love our kids,” Coach Myers ended by saying, “It’s not the uniform we wear, it’s who we want our kids to be. My goal as a teacher is, one person at a time, to make the world a better place."
and community are worth it!
