Prattville, AL—The Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition, in partnership with the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce Coach Sarah Patterson, University of Alabama Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach, 1979-2014, is the 2016 Champion of Character. The Coalition will present Coach Patterson with the award during the 6th annual Champions of Character event to be held, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Robert Trent Jones Clubhouse in Prattville.
During her tenure, Coach Patterson led the Alabama Crimson Tide women’s gymnastics team through 36 seasons; 1,006 wins and 43 postseason championships, including six national titles and eight SEC titles. Coach Patterson’s commitment to build a program that excelled and thrived at the highest levels and in all areas of the collegiate experience, both in the gym and the classroom, while making a difference in the Tuscaloosa community, is one of many reasons she was chosen to receive this prestigious award. Her philosophy has always been, “if you develop the whole person, not just the gymnast, the scores will take care of themselves”.
For the last 6 years, the Champions of Character Event has been a favorite amongst our community and contributors. Last year Coach Clint Myers, head softball coach, Auburn University received the inaugural Champion of Character Award. “We are honored and privileged to present Coach Sarah Patterson with the 2016 Champion of Character Award. She is a true testament that the character qualities of a person have everything to do with their success," said Dr. Ed Mullins, President of the Coalition's board of directors, "Good character is essential to every individual, family, school, business and community to reach their fullest potential and by highlighting this, we are able to continue to shine a light on the importance of character education in our community."
Since 2006, the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, has worked to ensure our community remains one of character by strategically promoting good character among its citizens through education and example. The program is composed of community leaders and
volunteers who work diligently to introduce and promote the idea that character is learned and can be improved throughout a person’s life. The Coalition uses a systemic focus and works closely with organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals to introduce good character qualities into daily life. Through the support of our community and donors, the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition sets a good course for our community, one character trait at a time.
